Outreach: Bringing services to rural communities

The Mobile Autism Clinic, better known as the MAC, is our training clinic on wheels, where graduate student clinicians receive in depth supervision on all assessments and interventions conducted.  Services depend upon their research interest and availability. Few, if any, other mobile autism clinics exist in the country.

The MAC 1.0 was housed in a 2004 renovated 29-foot RV and served communities within the Mount Rogers Community Services catchment area, offering assessments and therapy services at various locations.

At our recent VTCAR 2025 Biennial Conference, the announcement was made that Jerry Hulick has committed to the purchase of a MAC 2.0!  We are grateful for his generosity and support to continuing our mission of reaching under-served communities with supportive services and research.

Photos of the old MAC 1.0 30 foot RV and inside a room of the RV that contains a small sofa and two chairs. Also a photo of an example of the inside of a new van outfitted as a clinical space. The photo in the top right is of Angela Scarpa and Jerry Hulick standing side by side.

Information about future MAC services will be made available on our Participate in a Study webpage and via social media.
